This project would consist in evaluating different fitness traits in populations that have experienced increase inbreeding under control conditions.
Inbreeding can have severe consequences in natural populations and several plant traits might represent a higher influence on the fitness decline, such as breeding system and who pollinates the plant. We are currently working with different plant species and populations that present differences in the reproductive system and/or the type of pollinator to test if these traits can help us explain the amount of fitness observed under inbreeding.
Our intern will gain experience in reproductive biology, in conservation genetics and the influence of inbreeding in plants.
