Brighamia insingis is a hawaiian lobelioid species believed to be extinct in the wild. Since the mid 19th century several plants have been collected from the wild and kept into herbaria throughout the western hemisphere. These collections contain vital information regarding the past genetic diversity of the species which can be studied by extracting their DNA and analyzing it using microsatellites.
